Michael K. Robinson

Michael K. RobinsonMike Robinson has lived just about from coast to coast in Canada!

Having grown up in southern Ontario, Mike completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.  It was here, while experiencing the life and culture of the Maritimes he found his true calling – Investment Finance.  While some people may find this topic very dry and confusing, for MIke all the concepts just ‘clicked.’  Everything just made sense to him and he was able to figure out solutions by following his own logical process.  His natural talent did not go unnoticed either.  A judge brought in from Manulife Financial, to evaluate final papers for the University, was so impressed with Mike’s work that he was offered a job immediately upon graduation.

It was through Manulife that he gained exposure to the world of independent financial planning, and it was love at first sight.  Before Manulife, Mike assumed that everyone dealt with either a bank or a stockbroker and he found the independent wealth management landscape was a whole new world to improve upon his skills.  He relished in the opportunity to apply the conceptual finance world into real-world investment and retirement plans.  It was a great way to balance the theoretical with the practical.  Mike was quickly promoted and journeyed further west to Winnipeg where he became a representative of the wealth management department.  His role there was to take his knowledge and his natural ability, and apply it to practical situations.  He worked primarily with independent financial advisors providing them guidance on how to better build investment plans.

Again Mike’s talent for finance did not go unnoticed.  This time he was approached by Great-West Life to fill a new role whereby financial advisors contracted through Great-West Life and London Life could access him as a wealth management and retirement planning expert to help them with their affluent clients and prospects.  As the ‘advisor to the advisor’ it was Mike’s job to ensure that the needs of the affluent market were being met in all aspects; from investment options to fee structures, to accessing lawyers and accountants, to tying it all together.

Mike had great success in this role and found one of his most valuable assets was the ability to use his education and experience to sift through the marketing hoopla from every financial institution and determine what was really important and what was really of value to wealthy clients.

After five successful years as a Private Wealth Counselor, Mike and his new fiancée had some decisions to make, both personally and professionally.  On the personal side they decided to head to Calgary, Alberta to raise their family.  On the professional side Mike wanted to start working with his clients face to face and independent from any firm.  Only then could he really customize a full financial plan to the individual with complete unbiased advice as to what advice he would recommend.

Through Mike’s independent firm, Signature Financial Security, he now is able to harness all his passion, knowledge, and experience to provide his clients with the caliber of advice they deserve.  He still enjoys sharing his knowledge and is a regular contributor to Alberta Venture magazine, and is a regular guest on CITY TV's Breakfast Television and CHQR AM 770 in Calgary. Mike also shares his thoughts through The Signature Line, a quarterly update on economic changes, and with a select number of discussion groups. Mike is happily married to Mireille and in their spare time they enjoy golf and squash.  Mike also volunteers on the civic affairs committee for the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and with Canada Olympic Park.  With Signature Financial Security now an established success and a new family started, Mike is firmly entrenched in Calgary and loves being here, and he and Mireille are often found in the mountains on the weekend skiing or hiking.
